Poor Lacey

It had to happen sooner or later.  Lacey is the first of our kids to get a broken bone.  A buckle fracture of her left radius bone to be exact.  She took a tumble out of her crib Monday night (I think she was trying to prop herself up to look at Heidi).  Tuesday she was using it ok, but Wednesday she tripped and fell on the arm again.  It started looking pretty swollen and she was nursing it quite a bit so I decided to take her to the ER (her pediatrician was on vacation, how nice).  So far she is dealing with the splint pretty well.  She's only tried to unwrap it once.  We will have to take her to get a cast next week.

Her very own hospital bracelet
Waiting (2 hours total)

Her 'special sleeve' decorated with pony stickers (I had to bust out the paci when the tec tried to put her on the exam table...it didn't go well, but she did fine in my lap after)
Sweet Pea got her very own splint too

Hair Cut

Lacey had her first official haircut the other day.  The back was getting pretty scraggly, so we figured it was time to trim her curly locks.  She fussed a lot, but sat still enough so the lady was able to cut it.  They left it too long for my liking in the back, so we ended up having my mom trim it more.  She looks as cute as ever.

Date Nights

Brian and I are very fortunate to have parents who are so willing to watch our kids for us.  Recently we were able to have a few date nights.  The first was going to watch Bare Naked Ladies at Marymoor Park in Kirkland.  Its an outdoor venue, so people bring their blankets and chairs, pick a spot on the lawn, and basically camp out for the concert.  Some people even bring their kids and babies.  Last year we were able to see Death Cab For Cutie.  It's such fun experience we may try to make it a yearly tradition.

Our second date was trivia night at the Redhook Brewery.  We were a team with our friends Theresa, Joe, Kelli and Chris.  We didn't quite do as well at the trivia as we were expecting, but it was a great time with friends nonetheless.

Slacking on the Job

I have been so terrible about blogging lately.  Sorry to put everything out there all at once, but I had to take advantage of my little bit of down time.  Here's what has been happening the last few weeks.

Sisters

Usually when Lacey sits with Heidi, she pretty much starts to cry immediately.  Here are a few of the more successful shots of the girls together.

Spray Park

I figured we needed to take advantage of the bit of nice weather we had last week, so we went to the spray park with our friends Sarah and Aaden.  Last year Lacey wouldn't touch the water, but this year she was totally into it.  Her and Benjamin enjoyed the smaller fountains the best.  Aaden played in the water a little bit, but mostly hung out in the shade with Heidi.  I can't say that Heidi had much fun.  I tried at one point to put her foot in the water and she just screamed.  Maybe next year.

Princess or Tom Boy?

Last week, while Benjamin was at Auntie Becki's, I took the girls for a walk. Lacey looked like a little princess with her hair all done up and accessorized with sunglasses and bracelets.
Later I did some gardening in the backyard. Lacey hung out with me back there and managed to go from diva to dirt ball in a short time. She pulled out a big chunk of her pony tail and covered herself with dirt head to toe, complete with moss hanging off her diaper.

4th of July

We had a low key celebration at home. We played outside despite the cruddy weather, had a yummy BBQ with banana boats for dessert (bananas with chocolate and marshmallow warmed on the grill), and attempted to do some simple fireworks. The kids enjoyed the day until we got to the fireworks. Much to our dismay, both kids hate all forms of fireworks including sparklers and pop-its. We did manage to get Lacey to throw a few pop-its, but Benjamin wanted nothing to do with them.

This was as involved as we could get him

Heidi was the only one who didn't mind the fireworks

Carbon Copy

I was looking through old pictures and I came across pictures of Benjamin as a baby. I couldn't help but notice just how similar he and Heidi look as infants. Sure there are some differences, but overall they really look alike. I don't know what happened with Lacey, she doesn't look anything like the other two.
I thought it fitting that Benjamin is in the picture with her...maybe a little glimpse of what she might look like in the future :)

Big Boy Bike

We haven't been all that great about teaching Benjamin how to ride bikes. We got him a tricycle for his 3rd birthday and I think up until last month he had only ridden it once or twice. A few weeks ago we got Benjamin his first big boy bike (with training wheels). We thought it would take a lot of coaching, but he actually jumped right on and pedaled by himself with hardly any help from Brian. With a little more practice I think he'll be ready for bike rides with Daddy.
